Kristin L. Flewelling, CPA
Kristin L. Flewelling, CPAPresident
EXPERIENCE: Kris founded the firm in 1998. She believes that her experience in owning her own business gives her a unique understanding of the many challenges that business owners face, such as financing, employment, recordkeeping, and marketing issues. She has first-hand knowledge to share with start-ups as well as an emphasis on working with small businesses and non-profit organizations. Kris is skilled in audit, accounting, taxation and management consulting and worked for a CPA firm in Boulder, CO for six years prior to opening her practice. Kristin has worked in the practice of certified public accounting since 1985.

EDUCATION: Kris grew up in Iowa and graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa with a B.S. degree in Accounting and Economics. She had the opportunity, early in her career, to work for local, regional and national firms while she and her husband moved frequently across the state of Iowa.

AFFILIATIONS: Kris is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants. She was previously the treasurer of the board of directors for Mother House, Inc. and Sphere Ensemble, both in Boulder and the Superior Chamber of Commerce, as well as past president of the Lakes Chapter of the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants.

PERSONAL: She has been an active volunteer at her church for several years and also volunteers at the Boulder Homeless Shelter. Kris and her husband, Harvey, have two grown daughters, Lindsey and Jordan. Kris enjoys traveling, hiking, jogging, tennis, music, and spending time with her family.

Lynn M. Mitton, CPA, MT, MPA
Lynn M. Mitton, CPA, MT, MPAVice-President
EXPERIENCE: Lynn has over ten years of experience in tax preparation, tax planning, and IRS representation. She has consulted and worked with small businesses, individuals, estates, and trusts and has represented many clients before the IRS in correspondence, audits, and appeals. Lynn also worked for five years in cost accounting and inventory financial control for IBM in San Jose, California, where she met her husband, John.

EDUCATION: Raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Lynn was valedictorian of her high school class and graduated summa cum laude with a BSBA in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi. Lynn has a Master in Professional Accounting degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Taxation from the University of Denver.

AFFILIATIONS: Lynn is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants. Lynn is also the Treasurer of the Boulder County Estate Planning Council and spearheads the Tax Study Group of the Boulder / Longmont chapter of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants.

PERSONAL: Lynn and her husband, John, keep busy with their two boys and two adorable Havanese dogs. Their family enjoys learning about other cultures and has hosted over 10 foreign exchange students. Lynn is a black belt in American Kenpo karate and enjoys going on walks and playing tennis and softball.

Kathy E. Benner, CPA
Kathy E. Benner, CPASenior Tax Accountant
EXPERIENCE: Kathy began her career with Coopers & Lybrand in Sacramento where she worked with a variety of clients in different industries. After being licensed in 1992, she went to work for A. Teichert & Sons, Inc. as their Tax Manager. She prepared all corporate tax returns, managed tax costs and correspondence with tax agencies. Kathy then worked for Ernst & Young preparing Real Estate Tax Partnership returns. Kathy worked at Flewelling & Mitton, P.C. from 2012 to 2014, and has joined the company again in 2019.

Education: Kathy graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a B.S. in Business Administration, Accountancy

Affiliations: Kathy is a member of the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Personal: Kathy lives in Superior with her husband and has two daughters in college. She enjoys being outside hiking, running and biking. Kathy is involved with the University Ministry at her church, and enjoys being a host for various events.

Deborah L. Rice, CPA, EA
Deborah L. Rice, CPA, EATax & Accounting Manager
EXPERIENCE: Deborah has more than five years’ experience in tax preparation and planning for small businesses and individuals. She has extensive experience in bookkeeping, payroll, and other small business services. She is certified as a Quickbooks Online Proadvisor and as a Xero Advisor. Before working in public accounting, Deborah formerly assisted her husband in running a small engineering business.

EDUCATION: Deborah graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree. She worked as a geophysicist for several years before taking time to raise a family. Deborah then returned to college to study accounting and business, becoming an Enrolled Agent in 2013 and a Certified Public Accountant in 2015.

PERSONAL: Deborah and her husband, John, have two grown daughters, both engineers. Deborah enjoys hiking and camping. Deborah volunteers with her church and is a voracious reader.

Michelle Nagel, CPA, MA
Michelle Nagel, CPA, MASenior Tax Accountant
EXPERIENCE: Michelle began her career with the Internal Revenue Service where she worked as a revenue agent in the area of Exam field audit. She later utilized her skills and experience working as a tax professional for national and local firms consulting both individuals and small businesses in tax preparation and planning, IRS correspondence, audits and tax resolution. Her years spent working in field audit combined with her ten years as a tax professional have provided her with exposure to a number of clients in a variety of industries.

EDUCATION: Michelle graduated from Colorado State University with a B.S. in Business Administration, an emphasis in Accounting and was an active member in Beta Alpha Psi. Michelle has a Master’s Degree in Accounting with a focus in Management from the University of Colorado at Denver.

PERSONAL: Michelle grew up in Evergreen, Colorado and now lives in the Denver-metro area with her husband, Jesse. Michelle has a black belt in American Tae Kwon Do. She enjoys long walks and working out at the gym with Jesse and family barbecues and visits with her son, daughter-in-law and grandson.

Suzanne Finnigan
Suzanne FinniganTax Accountant
EXPERIENCE: Suzanne was a principal at The Ayco Company, a fee-based financial planning firm in Albany, NY, and Irvine, CA. She counseled clients on tax, investing, insurance, and estate planning. She also presented financial planning seminars on pension, 401(k), stock options, etc., to corporate clients.

EDUCATION: Suzanne holds a BS in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. She captained the KU swim team and was named the Women’s Outstanding Student Athlete of the year as a senior. She also earned an MBA in finance from the University of Colorado, Boulder. At CU, she co-founded a women’s investment club.

PERSONAL: She is an active volunteer in her children’s school and sports leagues. She and her husband, Matt, have three school-aged children. Suzanne enjoys swimming, skiing, and exploring Boulder County’s hiking and running trails with her trusty dog, Carly.

Carrie Lingo

EXPERIENCE: Carrie has nine years of experience in property tax and mineral resource payments for Union Pacific Railroad. She has also worked in project management for a telecommunications company, community relations and media for a national brewing company, and production management for a fitness equipment manufacturer as well as an office furniture manufacturer.

EDUCATION: Carrie has earned her Masters in Production Management from Regis College in Denver as well as a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado. She completed Accounting Fundamentals at Front Range Community College.

PERSONAL: A native of Colorado, Carrie, her husband, and daughter share a love of Colorado’s beautiful weather; a wide variety of sporting activities including archery, tennis, bicycling, and karate; travel throughout the United States; and taking care of a wide variety of animals.
